POPIA notice
Privacy and POPIA
Last updated 11 September 2026. This notice explains how INSPIRE DRIVE collects South African ID numbers. It follows the POPIA compliance framework used for this service. It is not legal advice and it does not invent section numbers or penalties.
1. What we collect and why
When you create a learner account we collect your name, surname, email, phone number, password, South African ID number, and a copy of your ID. A coupon code is optional.
The ID number and document are collected for three stated purposes only:
- identity verification — so the account belongs to the person named on the ID;
- NaTIS learner’s-licence booking support — so we can help you prepare a booking in your own name;
- certificates and audit trails — so a completed course can be tied to the right person if a school, parent, or regulator asks.
We do not sell identity numbers. We do not use them for marketing lists or for any purpose you did not see on the sign-up form.
2. Consent before you type a number
POPIA requires you to know why we need the number, how it is handled, and who may see it, before you type it. The sign-up form states the reason next to the ID field. The consent box starts empty. You must tick it yourself. Pre-ticked consent is not valid.
If the first six digits of the ID show that you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must add their name and phone number and tick a second consent box. A minor cannot finish registration without that gate.
3. Safeguards
Collecting an ID number creates a duty to look after it. These are the safeguards we apply and that we show you in these pages:
- Transit. Sign-up, login, and document upload use HTTPS.
- Access control. Teaching and support staff see a truncated ID, for example ********1234. A full number is opened only by an authorised administrator when a verification task needs it.
- Least use. Staff tools are built to answer “is this the same person?” without spreading the full number more widely than the task requires.
- Retention. We keep the number while the account is active and for any extra period a transport regulator or other law requires. If you ask us to delete the account, we purge or anonymise the ID number unless we are required to keep a record.
- No secondary use. Identity numbers stay out of marketing, advertising, and unrelated analytics.
We do not publish encryption product names, database layout, file paths, or staff-panel addresses on this page. Publishing that detail would make the service easier to breach and would not help a learner or parent decide whether to consent.
4. Who we share with
We do not hand your ID number to advertisers. A driving school that invited you, or a parent linked to your account, may need confirmation that the learner is the person on the ID. Official NaTIS booking is done by you on the government portal. We do not send your ID number to NaTIS from this page.
5. Your requests
You may ask what identity information we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete the account. Use Support or WhatsApp support. We will action a deletion request unless the law requires us to keep a record.
6. Terms
Account rules sit in the Terms of service. Those terms repeat the same safeguards so you can read them in either place.
